Tebow hits a triple to right field! Right fielder has trouble with the ball and Tebow slides safe at 3rd on the throw.
Next play batter hits to right field and Tebow scores. This is Tebow’s second 3 hit game and his first triple. Amazing, because I believe the ball did not get past the outfielder who bobbled it. Tim is fast.
5-0 lead for the Fireflies. Tim has scored twice today.
Tebow is now hitting .250 tied for 3rd on this roster .261 is highest on the roster.

Tebow’s 3 hits today using all 3 fields. double to left, single up middle and triple to right #MiLB #Mets

Actually, it was a single to left. Tim is showing off today. He even slid head first and got up on one knee similar to Tebowing.

Crawdads next and on the road at that…NC is in for a real treat!

Tim Tebow flies out to left fielder Vince Fernandez.
    Game over-Fireflies win 5-0
Tebow is 3 for 4 with a .246 average, 5 total bases today and 2 runs
6th shutout of the season. Randy Gonzales threw 7 2/3 innings with no scores. Michael Paez hits a double and a HR.

Merandy Gonzalez and Tim Tebow led the way! It’s our sixth shutout win of the season.

  7. ck says:

Will check back-in later…HAPPY THEY WON!!!

  8. Bigfan says:

    And I missed it! Nuts!

  9. TheMascotArmy says:

    Great news, thanks guys!

  10. Danny says:

The Mets organization has to be pleased what they’ve seen so far from Tim. They stood up to the naysayers and snarks and gave Tim a chance to shine and excel.

    Which he has.

Counting walks he has 69 plate appearances for Columbia…and he’s come this far already?

There hasn’t been any issues with his fielding, he had an assist the other day and the highlights show that he’s comfortable out in the field.

This is only the beginning folks.

    • ck says:

The coach states he is finding his “rhythm” and couldn’t agree more. Thanks David for all the excellent vids. Called over to the “Crawdads” ticket office and they are “sold out” x three days and maybe might have some openings on Sunday! Told them they better keep Tebow playing and they agreed…lol! Even the competition is getting in on the “Tebow” effect and selling out! Just curious and called b/c online all the seats were unavailable. GO TEBOW!

  11. Danny says:

Tim almost went 4-4 yesterday with a drive that barely missed being a HR at his last at bat!

    Great MLB writeup!

    • tawk2 says:

Thanks Danny for all the great info! Loved this write up too! It’s Tebow time! Thanks to all who keep this amazing site informed on all things Tebow1

      • ck says:

Hi tawk2! Happy about “Tebow Time” too! Tuning in now b/c the game started at 7:00 p.m. tonight and tomorrow the same. Sat. is @ 6:00 p.m. and Sun. @ 3:00 p.m.

  12. David says:

On April 19 in Rome, GA Tebow went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. It’s the only game that Tebow has not been on base. But, it looks like he was robbed on the call at first base. He beat the throw.
That was when the media got snarky and Tebow went 3 for 3 in the next game and raised his batting average from .156 to .208 in one game.

  13. Brandi says:

Apparently Stephen A Smith doesn’t much like being the one on the other end of one of Jeff Pearlman’s verbal assaults. http://thebiglead.com/2017/04/27/stephen-a-smith-blasts-his-critics-including-jeff-pearlman/

Pearlman is the Ex-Sports Illustrated Reporter turned Book Author who wrote the article “I Want Tim Tebow To Fail” prior to the 2010 NFL Draft that became the manifesto for many dedicated Tebow Detractors, especially those in Sports Media. (Jeff Pearlman is the man who turned Sports Media against Tebow before he was even Drafted)

Not that Stephen A will now have a bit more sympathy for Tim now that he’s the one in Pearlman’s sights.

    • Danny says:

Just the little I’ve read about Jeff Pearlman indicates to me that he is a disturbed man. It’s one thing to attack Tebow, but he went after Tim’s father and their ministry too.

Just looking at a few other things in his blog validated what you said. He’s gone after other writers that are solid guys which gives me perspective on who Pearlman is.

Thank goodness people like him are in the minority.

  14. Danny says:

Fireflies begin a long road trip starting with Hickory tonight through Sunday. Their last game on the road is May 8th before heading home.

Tonight Tim bats 6th playing LF.

  15. tawk2 says:

Game on hold, does anyone know when it will start? Been listening to same interview from earlier being played again.

    • tawk2 says:

Thanks again David, I heard at 7:00 but said to check back at 7:30 I missed it then. Thanks for always finding the answers.

  16. tawk2 says:

On twitter it says first pitch at 8:35 pm

  17. David says:

Tebow with a strike out then a single in his 2nd at bat.

  18. David says:

top of the 6th. Runners on 1st and 2nd, Tebow pops out to 3rd base. Next batter gets on with an error. Bases are loaded with 1 out. A run walks in to make it 8-2. Sanchez gets a hit and scores 2 RBIs, now 8-4. Runners at 1st and 2nd, Cone pops out to center. Carpio grounds out to pitcher for out 3.

  19. David says:

Top of the 8th, Tim leads off and is hit on the foot by a pitch. Goes to 1st. Medina hits up the middle and Tebow safe on 2nd. No outs.

  20. David says:

Fireflies trail 8-7. No scores in the top of the 8th. Tim will bat 3rd in the 9th.

    • Sage says:

Any idea what the protocol is for suspended games.

Ha. Don’t look on my account.

      • David says:

It just changed from Delayed:Fog to Suspended:Fog so maybe they will finish it tomorrow and then play another game.

      • David says:

        Columbia Fireflies‏Verified account @ColaFireflies 2m2 minutes ago
We are suspended due to fog. Game will resume on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Second game will begin no sooner than 7:00 p.m.

      • Danny says:

I think when they suspend a game, they will pick up where they left off tomorrow and play until that game is finished, then start the regularly scheduled game.

Fireflies won on a called game earlier this season due to heavy rain(Hickory again, I believe). It was 8-3 then late in the game so the decision was made to end the game. I think Tebow was up to bat when they called it?

Anyway, Tebow comes up third in the 9th inning when they play tomorrow.

I’m speculating, but they might rest Tebow for tomorrows regularly scheduled game. He’s played in a lot of games lately. Tough to keep a hot bat out of the lineup though.

    • ck says:

Looks like lots of delays (rain/fog) and someone stated on the post that “fly balls could be an adventure” then when Mendez (pitcher/Crawdads) hits Tebow on the 1st pitch in the 8th, he is booed! Seems like he is a target…hmmm
Thanks David for posting…appreciate you guys. Will try to catch it at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow. GBPTT

  21. Danny says:

A tweet from the Fireflies this morning:

Y’all…don’t tell anyone but Tim Tebull is RIGHT BEHIND @TimTebow…

  22. Sage says:

The Bears pay Glennon bigly, then go all-in on Trubisky. It must be nice to be a Packers fan.

A first-round QB ripening on the bench is a three year alibi for management. Pretty soon, though, doesn’t Fox need to win more than four games?

  23. TheMascotArmy says:

Friday, Saturday, games sold out, Sunday has no adjacent seats. I was going to take the family Sunday, but waited too long. Might drive to a home game now.

    • tawk2 says:

So sorry, we bought our VIP tickets here for the Hagerstown Suns game as soon as they released the schedule and we seen Tebow was on the team. Not sure but tickets were close to being sold out here too. We go on June 4th so excited! I hope you can get to see him play too.

    • Danny says:

TMA There might be some seats available for Saturday’s game in Section 116. Look on their website.

    • ck says:

Can’t say he is not popular and hope you find a game that has available seats that are in the same row TMA which seems to be hard to do due to the above. Lucky if you can get to a game that is not “sold out”! Wish he were still local around here and hope you get your tickets–definitely worth it!

  24. David says:

    We lost.

UPDATE: Thursday’s game has been ruled official.

    FINAL/8: Hickory – 8, Columbia – 7

Friday night’s tilt is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

  25. Danny says:

Tim batting 6th tonight playing DH.

  26. tawk2 says:

Tim just hit a single, two outs top of 2cd, then Lindsey hit a HR, two runs scored!

  27. David says:

    Lou Bezjak‏ @LouatTheState 7m7 minutes ago
Tim Tebow with a single in his first at-bat tonight at Hickory. Average now at .261. He is 11-for-23 in last 8 games #MiLB

  28. Danny says:

    Various Tim stat highlights:

    Team Stats:

Tied for third on team with runs scored with 10
Second place in batting average with .250
One of five players on the team with a triple.
Tied for second in HR’s with 2
Third in base hits with 18
Second in slugging percentage with .403
    Fourth in OBP with .719
Second in total bases with 29
    Fourth in RBI’s with 9

Tim is mostly in the middle of the pack in stats for the South Atlantic League. Tim is finding his groove so those overall rankings will rise as well over time.

  29. Danny says:

For you stats junkies, (David, etc.) everything you want to know about Tebow and then some:

David, you may have posted this already but I couldn’t find it.

    • David says:

Wow. Tim is hitting .324 in the last 10 games and 34 at bats. Other players are improving as well. Gamache, Lindsay, and Paez have all hit home runs lately. Thanks, Danny.

    • Danny says:

That is impressive for sure; that’s basically half his at-bats this season for Columbia.

Other than the last 10 games, Tebow went 7-38 for .184. Now 11-34 for .324 in his last 10 games. This shows a vast improvement as he’s getting more reps….and he’s doing this so quickly too.

Gamache, Lindsay, and Paez are starting to catch fire too. Lindsay was the Mets’ first selection of the 2015 draft and 53rd pick overall. They have high hopes for him.

  30. Danny says:

Tim not in the lineup tonight. Presumably he is available to pinch hit or substitution.

If the pattern follows as before, Tim will be playing tomorrow.

  31. David says:

Another video of Tim’s triple. Expand it and listen to the kids cheering him on. One guy asks, Is this the guy that played football? Yea, the one with the read option.

  32. David says:

New song inspired by 75,000 #NightToShine Prom Kings and Queens!

  33. Bubbaelvis says:

He really is making great progress. I’ve noticed he is hitting a lot more line drives and fly balls which translates into more base hits. The more you can get the ball airborn as a hitter the greater the odds of it finding open ground. Looking at team stats, a few guys have homers. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Tim’s homerun production go up with him being so competitive. Anyway, things seem to be going very well.

    • David says:

Tim said that Daniel Murphy told him that good things happen when you get the ball in the air. The rate of improvement is amazing as Danny pointed out above.

      • Bill Stacy says:

Most guys are taught to hit line drives and ground balls. Greater chance for errors bad hops etc Guys with power generally are taught to have a slight upswing and yes on an advanced level if you are hitting it hard a ball in the air translates into home runs extra base hits etc. Hitters don’t try to hit home runs except in certai situations. They are just trying to hit the ball square and hard.

      • David says:

We’ve noticed that his power is causing a lot of infield errors and he has the speed to beat the throw when that happens. He has gotten on base about 4 times on errors. His batting average with 18 hits in 72 at bats is .250. Include the 4 extra bases and it’s .305 so his power is a plus. But, when there are men on base, I hate to see him hit grounders that have ended in double plays. A fly out with an RBI would be much better. As you said, the situation dictates the strategy.

  34. David says:

Game time is 3:00PM. Tebow is batting 7th and playing LF

  35. David says:

Tebow walked and bases are loaded. Jay Jabs hits a double to left field and drives in 3 runs. Tebow scored from 1st base! I have got to see that.

    Alec Campbell‏ @AlecCampbell5 4m4 minutes ago
Base hit scores Tebow to give away team 5-0 lead in the 1st inning. Home crowd roars.

  36. Andrea says:

Thanks for all the updates David. Looks like Tebow cooled off today but he will rebound.

  37. ck says:

    Looks like there are no games on Monday…Tues. @ 7:05 p.; Wed. @ 11:05 a.; Thurs. @ 7:05 p.; Fri. @ 7:05 p.; Sat. @ 7:05 p.; Sun. @ 2:05 p.; Mon. @ 7:05 p.; Tues. off. GO TEBOW!;D

Thanks all for the great posts and appreciate having this site–thanks, Buzzy too! Hope u r doing alright?!

    • David says:

      Thanks ck and Buzzy too.

    • Danny says:

Columbia’s first day off since they began the season on April 6th. That’s a pretty long stretch of playing without a break. It looks like they get 3 days off in May. Baseball is certainly a marathon, not a sprint.

This site is so much more active now that Tim is playing regularly. It’s great to see the activity.

Perhaps Buzzy should start GDT’s (Game Day Threads) for each game to kind of keep the content organized a little better and make the chatter more relevant to the game being played.

    • Danny says:

…or perhaps instead of GDT’s, dedicated a thread to a series as the Fireflies play the same opponent for 3 or 4 games in a row. Makes less work for Buzzy.

      • Brandi says:

If Y’all would like, I can set up a GameDay Chat. Including live Game updates and Tebow Twitter stream feed so all the info is right there. Plus, make it so only registered individuals can comment to keep it from becoming a haven for anti-Tebow trolls.

Pretty much anything including the radio broadcast on it if folks would like. It’s entirely up to you guys if you’d like. Just let me know. I could easily have it up by the next Game.

        • Sage says:

With gratitude, Brandi, I like the simple format here. A few dedicated Tebow fans have managed to find it consistently for several years now.

          • Sage says:

Buzzy, you’re with us in spirit, right?

          • Danny says:

I would defer to those who have been out here a very long time. Comparatively speaking, I haven’t been out here for very long, perhaps 2 years now. So I think I would leave it up to the folks that have been out here longer.

          • tawk2 says:

Yes Sage I agree, this place has been where I have came for years now. I too like the simple laid back way.

          • ck says:

Sage, I think it worked…looks like you got a response from MIA Buzzy! LA

      • ck says:

Interesting idea and hope Buzzy runs w/it.

    • tawk2 says:

Thanks ck and all who contribute to this amazing site! Hope Buzzy is doing well too. It’s so nice to get info here from Tebow supporters, love all the great, kind people here, bless you all!

    • Danny says:

Tebow has the advantage of being a seasoned professional athlete and he just needs to refine the skills of the game, which he’s making large strides in developing his craft.

      • Brandi says:

I think the only major skill Tim needs now is identifying Pitches as they leave the Pitcher’s hand. He has most of the other skills down pretty well already and will improve on all (most anyway) of them with time.

The problem with that last skill is it always gets harder. Even MLB All-Star Hitters sometimes have problems, especially with Pitchers they haven’t seen before whose motion, angle, release, etc. is a little different from most. Some MLB Pitchers are extremely successful while being known for having “average ‘stuff'” simply because they’re so good at hiding their Pitches. So Tim will never finish learning that skill. But as soon as Mets Coaches are convinced he’s got the basic skill down for most Pitchers he faces, I think they’ll be rocketing him through the system.

      • ck says:

        Agreed, Danny.

    • ck says:

Believe he is well on his way and in a class all his own. Think the article was very well written too! Thanks, David.
