And yet Tim finished the AFL doing really well, impressing his Manager & Coaches, Teammates and Mets GM Sandy Alderson. Oh, and Owner Jeff Wilpon who picked Tebow to join him representing the Mets Organization giving its condolences for a fallen Queens Police Officer.
A far cry, BTW, from that other New York Team with Queens Roots, the Jets. Whose Owner talked about how good Tim was for the NFL then just watched as Rex Ryan humiliated him.
An aside, when the Yankees decided not to match offers to keep Robby Cano, they cited the main reason was he wanted “Derek Jeter money without Jeter’s popularity among Yankees Fans.” Unlike the NFL, Baseball gets it that it’s in business for the Fans. They may not always get it right but they do have their priorities over who matters most lined up straight.
Even aside from my resentment and bias, woody johnson appears to be the epitome of poor leadership. Useless.
Another affirmation that the Mets are firmly behind Tim Tebow:
Ken Davidoff,, who covers the Mets for the NY Post, summed up how the Mets look at Tim in his column on whether he’ll go straight to their Major League Spring Training Camp (as opposed to Minor League Camp.
That though the Mets have been “peddle to the metal” in pushing Tim’s development they don’t want to risk too much “aggressiveness could harm their most valuable property.”
Sandy Alderson loves Tebow. Terry Collins (Mets Manager) loves Tim. The Wilpons (Mets Owners) love Tim. They’re gonna push him as fast as they can without messing up his development.
The usual crowd of snarkers is trying their usual nonsensical remarks about Tim. But nobody’s biting. Not the Mets and, for the most part, not MLB and Mets Media.
At this pace I wonder how long it’ll be before most of Tim’s fans are shaking their heads and saying–I wish he’d gone straight to Baseball and never gave the NFL the time of day.
All Tim needed was for someone to get who he is and to believe in him. He has that in the Mets.
Sandy Alderson is right, the best way for Tim to find his groove is to get his consistent at-bats and field experience. He will improve as he did in the AFL against overwhelming competition.
The Mets know his mental makeup. I posted a link some time back about Tim training with some Green Berets and they gave glowing assessments of his character. These are the intangibles the Mets see in Tim and may have been a big factor in the Mets signing him in the first place.
I can see Tim starting in AA ball, given his play against elite AAA and AA players. Keep in mind that the AFL rosters could only have a couple of A level players on each team. He will not face the consistent stiff competition in AA ball as he did in the AFL. This will give him time and confidence to improve and take his game to the next level.
Right about all of that, Danny!;D
From various sources:
“Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told ESPN’s Adam Rubin that Tebow was “likely” to start with the Mets minor league camp when Spring Training commences in March, although he still could be brought over for occasional action with the Major League team.
From there, Alderson told Rubin, Tebow is likely to break camp with one of the Mets’ full-time minor league affiliates.”
Kevin Long, Mets hitting coach, says that he wouldn’t be surprised if Tim makes the majors.
But, he says that Tim needs more at bats in the minors.
I like the cautious approach, too.
The next major move will be Tim being added to the Mets 40-Man Roster. Assuming, of course, he doesn’t end up as Trade Bait. But the real value there is if they get him under a Contract that ties him up for a few years.
There’s still solid reasons for him to be on an American League Team where the DH enters the equation. But everything, I think, hinges on Tim harnessing his Power. Keven Long says he’s never seen anyone with Tim’s physical attributes. He’s so strong he doesn’t have to change his swing to hit Home Runs in large numbers. Only a few Players have ever had that kind of Power and possibly none as strong as Tim Tebow.
It boggles some minds. But you can bet the Mets aren’t the only ones whose Executives, Managers, Hitting Coaches are already impressed with his potential.
That IS GREAT NEWS FOR TEBOW FANS! THX DANNY!;D
Timmy got ship wrecked 3 times. Hmmm I know of someone else that happened to. Let us all trust and stay focused on the future.
