Buzzy Says The Eagles was the Turn down I reported

Tim Tebow hasn’t played a down in the NFL since he was with the New York Jets in 2012. He spent some preseason time with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, but never made it into the regular season with them. Rumors have persisted that he would be signed by another team, but it has yet to happen. Now, they’re starting up again and Tebow is reportedly connected to the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.

Now, Tebow is an NFL analyst, college football commentator, and host for numerous daytime talk shows and events. Still, he has the talent, youth, and ability to contribute to a team in the NFL, and could likely help out a few of them as well.

The Gospel Herald reports that there are two teams out there which are already giving Tim Tebow some looks and could bring him for at least training camp. If the talk ends up being true, then the Cowboys are going in two different directions in their reported interests in Tebow and Johnny Manziel.

2015 was a season of complete disappointment for the Cowboys and 49ers alike. Dallas suffered injury after injury and ended up in last place in the NFC East. Tony Romo missed almost the entire season and Dez Bryant was right there with him.

Tony Romo suffered two serious collarbone injuries in 2015 and he’s not getting any younger. It’s obvious that the Cowboys don’t currently have his replacement on the roster as Brandon Weeden has come and gone while Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore could do no better.

The Cowboys could very well draft a quarterback in April, and he could learn behind Romo for a few years. After a 4-12 record though, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has let it be known that everyone on the team will be evaluated and no one is totally safe, per ESPN.

Even Tony Romo knows that changes need to be made and the draft could be where the Cowboys do that.

“We’re going to evaluate everybody and the organization is going to look at who to take and they’re going to take the best player. If the best player there is a quarterback, then that’s what our team needs. Our team needs good players. That’s what we need. And if it’s the best player at a different position … I’m just obviously a player on the football team and I don’t have to make those decisions, and I’m glad. My job is go out and get better and make sure this team wins next year. And I’m going to do everything in my power to ensure that.”

The San Francisco 49ers didn’t do much better in 2015 as they finished with a 5-11 record and saw a change in quarterback as well. Blaine Gabbert appears to be their starter going forward and Colin Kaepernick may not even be on the team at all next season.

Now, it’s not entirely surprising that the Niners would look at Tim Tebow because the loss of Kaepernick means they want to bring in another quarterback similar to him in style. Not only that, former Eagles coach Chip Kelly now guides the 49ers and he liked Tebow in the past, but the quarterback position was simply overstocked in Philly.

Doug Pederson was just hired as the new head coach of the Eagles, and Tim Tebow is rumored to not be so interested in returning to the team. It’s obvious that Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez didn’t do what needed to be done for success, and Philadelphia is liking looking at quarterbacks too.

The San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys both need to make some big-time changes in the offseason, and a starting quarterback could be the beginning. Well, a good back-up wouldn’t hurt either. Tim Tebow is happy doing what he’s doing, but he would love to return to the field and play again.

Would be very cool if it happened though?

    Interesting…if all this is true:

One takeaway from this is that the Eagles remember Tim very well and perhaps there are some that wanted Tim back.

The Eagles have a new GM and coach this year, so it’s certainly not the same people in place when Tim was there last year.

There may be a number of reasons why Tim turned them down. If the Eagles were to bring Tim in for a “camp arm” I’m sure that Tim would not be interested.

Coach Pederson didn’t seem all that committed to Bradford there and Bradford seemed to share the same sentiment after the Eagles drafted Wentz. Bradford needs to be grateful of his opportunity as he really hasn’t performed at all in his underwhelming career to date.

Kelly, Shurmur, and Sanchez all have moved on which should have cleared the way for Tebow to come back without the overhead baggage from last year. I remember how poorly he was treated by the three of them.

So it’s hard to say why he turned it down.

As far as the Cowboys and 49ers go, I can’t see him going back to Chip Kelly after all that, although Kelly is one coach whose inner nature I believe is running the zone read and Tebow is the best in the game running the zone read.

Dallas has Jerry Jones as an owner and his king size ego can’t handle Tim coming to town. Signing Tim would be an upgrade from where they are at now.

An interesting observation about Pat Shurmur, last year he was the Eagles offensive coordinator and now he is a tight end coach for the Vikings. Quite a demotion there. I get that Doug Pederson has the right to have his own people in there, but no one else wanted Shurmur to be the OC for their team and he had to settle for the tight end coach for the Vikings.

The Eagles gave up so much to be able to draft Wentz, even the Browns were shocked. They took it, of course. But they got more than they ever expected. After going through last Season when the Eagles gave up so much to get Sam Bradford and seeing that the worst thing he did all Camp & Pre-Season was play well, why would he be quick to get himself in possibly even a worse situation?

The very most the Eagles could do is tell Tim he’s their Starting QB and they want Wentz to have some time to adjust and learn. Would he have any reason to believe them? He was flat out lied to by the Jets and then turned into the scapegoat for every Jets Front Office and Coaching mis-step for years. So much so the same New York Media that called Mark Sanchez “Dead QB Walking” and crowned Tim the new Sports King of New York now has forgotten getting him was an overwhelmingly popular move and their own Polls went as high as the upper 90%s of their own Readers, Listeners, Viewers wanting Tim to lead the Team. Now they act like nobody ever even wanted him there.

Then Chip tries to send him to Canada and even Media Supporters of Tim’s in Philly start acting like that’s not far enough away.

Yeah, I doubt the Eagles could or would be willing to make the kind of guarantees that would make going back there again appealing. Not when he’d have to quit something like 4 TV gigs to take it.

The Eagles already have a full QB room. Bradford is being paid 18 mil and Chase Daniel just got a 3 year 7 mil contract as a backup. Carson Wentz was just drafted so there isn’t any room for another QB. The Eagles are committed to these 3.

That’s 7 million per year for Daniels, a seasoned veteran, Lol.
          77 attempts 1 TD 1 Int
Mettenberger was picked up off of waivers by the Chargers. He has thrown 12 TDs 14 Ints.

          • Sage says:

McCoy can wander his way out of the league any time, as far as I’m concerned.

He and Adam Gase were lofted by Tebow’s grit and talent, and never showed Tebow an ounce of grace.

If either McCoy or Gase has staying power as an HC, I’ll be surprised.

          • David says:

That’s a fact. We can throw Fox and Elway in that bunch who have ridden the backs of 2 of the greatest quarterbacks in history, Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning.
