Philadelphia Eagles Rumors and News: Tim Tebow plays great and Chip Kelly is pleased, Matt Barkley capture the backup quarterback?

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly was in a difficult situation before the start of the NFL Preseason because of his job to select the backup quarterback. Tim Tebow, Matt Barkley and Mark Sanchez are fighting for that position while Sam Bradford was already selected as the starter.

Kelly might have found himself in an easier task now that one of the three quarterbacks played wonderfully almost perfect in the game against the Indianapolis Colts. Barkley was the shining quarterback after that game as he completed 12 of 20 passes for 192 passing yards. Barkley accumulated more yards than his counterparts namely Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck and Bryan Bennett combined.

Tebow might received the crowd noise and standing ovations but his numbers were not impressive: 6 of 12 passes for 69 yards. Sanches threw for 2 for 7 passes for only 52 yards. Clearly Bradford won the first round in the battle for the backup quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles.

As reported by Inquisitor:

Matt Barkley was selected in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of USC. He hasn’t had a lot of playing time in the two seasons since then, appearing in only four games for the team. During this past NFL offseason, many Philadelphia Eagles rumors started to hint that he could possibly see more playing time for the team. By bringing in Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow, the coaching staff is pushing him to perform at a high-level right away.

The backup quarterback battle is not over for the three aspiring quarterbacks. It would be a question if Kelly would retain all of them in the upcoming NFL regular season.
