Tim Tebow’s improvement may turn into meaningful snaps for Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles QB Matt Barkley joins teammate Mark Sanchez in calling Tim Tebow only a camp arm.

Tim Tebow might be Chip Kelly’s first choice after all. Despite all of the quotes from fellow Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterbacks, Tebow is not just an extra arm for the training camp session this summer. If that’s the case, Wednesday was the official day that the “Tim Tebow” hype machine commenced.

According to NFL.com, Kelly has seen vast improvement in Tebow’s game since signing with the Eagles in April. It seems Tebow has progressed on a daily basis, and his familiarity with the system is making all of the difference in the world. “I have seen an improvement from Tim since the day we got him in terms of his knowledge of what we’re doing, understanding where everybody is,” Kelly said, via the Delaware County Times. “There’s a whole process, and for him what we have done is different than what he’s done anywhere else.”

From first glance, there wasn’t really a question if Tebow fit in with Kelly’s system. Not only should this have been the best fit, this could be Tebow’s last chance as an NFL quarterback if he fails to make the team. That’s when things will get really interesting.

Chris Wesseling of NFL.com doesn’t believe Tebow will challenge Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez for the starting job, but that’s underestimating the power of the Tebow fan base. In addition, the allure of using Tebow in certain offensive situations will be too hard to pass up. It’s already noted thatTebow is a legitimate threat to beat out Matt Barkley for the third string quarterback position. A main reason is his ability to run the offense in the red zone.

If Tebow ends up beating Barkley in August, it may not be long until he’s vying for meaningful snaps in the regular season games. Nobody saw that coming before his surprising workout out in the spring.

This may seem a little out of left field. But I know often Fans of Tim get grief for following a Team because Tim plays for them. Deloitte just completed a study on how Sports Fans pick their favorite Teams.

6% The Team is on TV the most

8% Their favorite Player does or did Play for it.

    10% Team Performance

    14% Family History

    22% Their Current Location
