Mark Sanchez is backing off of his quote from late April that made it seem like he was dismissing Tim Tebow and the former Heisman Trophy winner’s chances of being a significant player with the Philadelphia Eagles.

After Tebow was signed by Philly, Sanchez was quoted as saying he was told Tebow was brought in to be another camp arm. It was a somewhat innocent response, but it seemed like Sanchez was dismissing his former backup QB with the Jets. Sanchez wants to make it clear that that is not how he feels about the man who is now his teammate for the second time.

“I think that kind of came off the wrong way,” Sanchez said last week via ESPN. “At least it was not exactly what I intended to say. It took on a life of its own. Listen, everybody’s here for a reason. We’re all working hard, trying to make each other better. Coach wanted specific guys here for specific reasons. That’s up to coach. We just plug in and play.”

That’s a much more politically correct answer from Sanchez, especially considering that he isn’t exactly the most solidified guy on the roster.

But Sanchez’s comments bring up a good point in general about the matter. What exactly is Tebow’s role on the Eagles? Is he competing to be the third-string QB? Is he a two-point conversion and short-yardage specialist? Will he even make the team? We will soon find out the answers to those questions.

I’m really surprised how different the philly fans have been from jets fans. Far superior.

I already have my Philly Tebow jersey. I’ll probably get one for any team he’s playing with.

Eagles have never won an SB. I’m the ultimate fanboy, but I think if Tebow sticks with the team for awhile, they’ll get their championship. He thinks big and somehow it rubs off on his teammates.

I think Jets Fans got a bad rep from a combination of how much under Rex’s spell JetsBeat Media was and those in a couple of the Jets Fan Forums. (The latter I think skewed because some of the largest Fan Sites are part of SB Nation which has a tendency to attract StatNerds who become very cultish, ie Cuckoo’s Nestish)

The last third or so of the Season Tim was a Jet polls in the NY Post, NY Daily News, CBS New York, etc. were overwhelmingly in favor of Tim taking over as Starting QB. As high as mid-to upper 90%s in favor. Y’all might remember it was Jets Fans calling for Tebow even with cries of “Tebow Save Us” that brought out mocking from some jets Players and Media. Those weren’t “Tebow Fans” who turned Jets Fans. Those were Jets fans who were among the first to get the prime PSL Seats, paid $30,000-$40,000 a Seat just for the privilege of paying aother $2000-3000 for season Tickets. And they were mocked as “Picked last at dodgeball losers”. UGH!

The jets sbnatiom guys were terrible ignoramuses, almost as bad as the jax sbnation idiots. Eagles sbnation are a little more open minded. Granted, the bar is pretty low. Denver sbnation was/is the best of the bunch…not a coincidence that the fans that have seen the most Tebow are the least dismissive.

Yeah not every SB Nation Blog is like that. Football tends to be worse than Baseball. But there’s some decent Football ones. My first major experience was the Rays one. Bad. I know the founder of it before it became SBN. He won’t have a thing to do with it now and is ashamed he ever started it.
