Eagles’ Tim Tebow ‘doesn’t worry’ about people who say he can’t play quarterback

From the moment he was drafted into the NFL in 2010, there have been plenty of skeptics surrounding Eagles quarterback Tim Tebow.

Five years later, with three spent in the NFL and two unemployed, that hasn’t changed.

Speaking Thursday morning on Sports Radio 94WIP, Tebow said he doesn’t worry about the skeptics that believe his latest attempt to be an NFL quarterback will be an unsuccessful one.

“The good thing is, I don’t really have to worry about it,” Tebow said. “For me, it’s just about trying to be the best teammate I can be. It’s not necessarily pleasing all outside opinion. There’s not going to be a lot of believers, there’s gonna be a lot of naysayers. That’s just something that you can’t let worry you.”

Tebow was signed by the Eagles earlier this offseason, and is currently fourth on the depth chart behind Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley.

As has been the case everywhere he has gone, however, there is plenty of intrigue surrounding Tebow, especially now that Chip Kelly is his head coach.

TEBOW: Will he make the Eagles’ roster?

Although he hasn’t admitted it, many believe Kelly needs and wants a running quarterback, a quality that none of the quarterbacks ahead of Tebow on the depth chart bring.

“I love the offense, I love the system,” Tebow said. “I think it’s an innovative system. I think you look at wherever Coach Kelly has been, I think he’s been able to change the way football has been played. The way the defenses have to approach trying to stop it, the ability that it gives the offense to play in space to let athletes go play. You know, I love the offense and I’ve been really enjoying getting to know it better and better everyday.”

The results on the field as Tebow continues to learn the offense has impressed the coaches.

Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said Tebow has gotten better every single day, and that so far the quarterback has made more good plays than bad. Quarterbacks coach Ryan Day has raved about Tebow’s competitiveness.

Now all Tebow has to do, to once again silence the skeptics, is actually make the team.

“It’s been a great adjustment getting used to the new facility, getting used to Philadelphia, obviously the new teammates and coaches—but it’s been great,” Tebow said. “Everybody has been extremely kind to me. I’ve been getting adjusted to it, but a lot of great teammates, a really great culture, and having a lot of fun as well.”
