No deal was announced with Tebow, and ESPN reported that the Eagles would not sign him at this time. But the mere mention of his workout became breaking news in the NFL, which speaks to Tebow’s popularity.

Tebow, 27, was a 2010 first-round pick who last played for the New England Patriots in the 2013 preseason. Tebow spent three seasons with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets from 2010-12. He was the starting quarterback for the Broncos when they reached the playoffs after the 2011 season. cq all

Tebow completed 173 of 361 (47.9 percent) career passes for 2,422 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 989 yards and 12 touchdowns. He won 8 of 14 games as a starting quarterback, with a 1-1 postseason record. Tebow spent last season as a college football analyst.

The former Florida star won the 2007 Heisman Trophy and two national championships with the Gators. He lost out on the 2008 award to Sam Bradford, who is now an Eagles quarterback.

Tebow’s quarterbacking career was cut short by an unorthodox throwing style and a lack of production as a passer. He was effective as a running quarterback, although Eagles coach Chip Kelly cited Tebow in 2013 when he explained the distinction between wanting a running quarterback and a quarterback with the ability to run.

“We did not run the same offense that Florida ran with Tim Tebow, where we’re running quarterback power,” Kelly said. “If there is an opportunity because a defensive end bends it and there’s green grass and you can go get a first down, hook-slide real quick, give the ball to the official, get up again and get ready to chuck it.

“In this league you need to be able to throw the football and that’s the first skill set that we’re looking for. Repetitive accuracy is the number one quality we’re looking for.”

Accuracy has not been a hallmark for Tebow. He has been working with private quarterback coach Tom House, who also has trained Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

There was speculation that Tebow would need to switch positions to continue his NFL career. The Eagles evaluated Tebow as a quarterback, according to several reports.

Here is a link to another great story about Tim from one of his trainers under Tom House.

I was surprised that the Eagles workout rumor was true. Now that he has worked out and the Eagles didn’t immediately sign him the media is painting it as a failure. I read a report that said he did ok and they were not impressed. I was a little worried that he would be tired after a day of golf and sun. Going right from the foundation golf tournament to Philly had.to be tough. Having said that, I think if he just did ok or worse, the media would be talking about how he still can’t throw and how he can’t be an NFL QB. The Eagles have to make some moves before they would sign another QB no matter who it is. I think Chip has something up his sleeve and Tim probably did well in his workout. No one said they wouldn’t sign him,. They said they didn’t sign him at this time. The Eagles have been good at keeping things under the radar and good at misdirection. We will see how this develops.

I agree with you, if Tim had messed up it would be everywhere! I believe he did great, I just hope other teams step up too! We need to keep our fingers crossed and hope alive! GO TEBOW!

Tim is not a pocket passer. Trying to make him into one should never have happened. He throws on the run as well as just about anyone in Football. Aaron Rodgers might be better. Rothlisberger about the same as Tim. But Ben wasn’t as natural at it. It took him several years to get there. There aren’t alot of other names that even automatically pop up.

Tim’s a good motion Passer and he’s just about the only one, with the occasional exception of Big Ben who can actually hold a charging Lineman off with one hand and throw a strike with the other.

But he can’t stand still and not think about the Pass as easily as other QBs. Maybe he’s better at it now. But it was bad Football to focus there first. And it was bad Football only because most NFL GMs don’t know any other way. That’s a lousy excuse. Their sucking at their jobs shouldn’t have affected tim’s.

Didn’t a report come out a week or so ago that the monday work out was going to happen and the report was labeled as a fraud by some. Does anyone remember who accurately reported this workout. It would be nice to set the record straight and remember the source that called it since that person must have inside information from either the tebow camp or the eagles. Does anyone remember who first reported the workout as a possibility?

I think it was a guy named Steve Materon. I’m not sure if I have the last name correct.

I just viewed on the link below a video of Marcus Spears on phone
interview of Paul Finebaum show.. “Spears Talks Tebow Practicing with Eagles”.

Marcus Spears gave a very positive view on the Eagles working out Tim,
as NFL QB, and the possible future sequence of events in a potential process for Tim to become an Eagle QB – very uplifting view of Tim’s potential and how he could fit into Chip Kelly’s offensive scheme…

There is no doubt Coach Kelly and crew saw a much better “Arm” demonstrated yesterday. The question becomes was it just see what all is available (like he did last year with Pryor) is he doing a favor for Timmy/his agent to try to help stir up interest, or as I mentioned in another thread is it part of just one scenario headed into the draft with 4 qbs currently on staff Sanchez, Bradford, (Both Fragile), Barkley and Kinne and do some “Horse Tradin'” and pick up Timmy IF this particular scenario comes into play??

Only time will tell BUT IF Timmy gets another look see from another team that could be better still???
Buzzy Says : Maybe thw Steelers will take a look that was a rumor back in 2013 they could use the Backup.

  8. brandi says:

Barkley and Bradford could both be in play for trades. (There were many who speculated on that with Bradford all along as he doesn’t fit Chip Kelly’s Offense at all and probably wouldn’t last a week without getting hurt running it.)

This is the first year Chip Kelly has had free reign to put together the team he wants. So anything’s possible. Now we have Grantland saying around the NFL they’re looking much more closely at the Eagles and how Kelly runs things, runs an Offense, his philosophies which are very different from the NFL rut to see if there’s something to learn from.

I know that there have been many saying for as long as a couple decades that the NFL will have to change or die. And it hasn’t happened. But maybe it finally is.
