Tim Tebow made a surprise visit to Timberlin Creek Elementary School in St. Johns County Tuesday morning.

Tebow came back to his home in Northeast Florida for the Good Morning America ‘Upgrades Your Morning’ series.

Tebow waited in a small room just outside the cafetorium with a TV crew in tow.

“We’re going to have fun with these kids. It’ll be fun,” Tebow told First Coast News as he waited.

“This is an area near and dear to Tim’s heart,” producer Gary Wynn said.

Just on the other side of the cafeteria doors, fourth and fifth graders sat and sang songs, thinking they were on GMA for a back-to-school special.

“They don’t know he’s here,” said Lauren Hilton said, the school’s computer guru. Hilton and maintenance manager Bill Fowler had to help with the set-up, but they had to keep the secret visit under wraps for days.

Hilton said, “It’s been pretty hard. I’ve been asked a lot of questions. ‘Is he coming? Who’s coming? What’s going on?’ I’ve kept a straight face.”

“It’s been pretty hard to keep a secret about Tim Tebow. I couldn’t even tell my wife over the weekend. That was hard,” Fowler said.

People even peppered Principal Christine Stephan about Tim Tebow possibly making an appearance. She beat around the bush.

“I did have to stretch the truth a little. I did,” she confessed.

As the students waited, viewers saw clips of Tebow visiting Fire Station 31 in Jacksonville, giving firefighters hot meals and a new TV. He also surprised a single mother of three in Jacksonville with groceries.

“To be here at this school with all these exciting kids and give something to the next generation means a lot to me,” Tebow told First Coast News.

Live on TV, Tebow burst through the cafeteria’s doors, and the students went wild.

Tebow was the surprise, but there was also breakfast, $25 gift cards to Sports Authority, and the announcement of no homework. Teachers even got shoulder massages from Massage Envy and gift cards to the business as well.

They all loved the morning, and Tebow did too.

“To be able to brighten someone’s day means a lot,” Tebow said.

Good Morning America is upgrading mornings all week long for unsuspecting people, hoping to prove small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
