There was a time former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow wouldn’t be received so well in Athens.

It’s a good thing the Georgia-Florida rivalry is played in Jacksonville, because fans may not have treated the former Heisman Trophy winner so politely from 2006-2009, a span of years where Georgia only beat the Gators once and Tebow helped lead Florida to two national titles. As an SEC Nation co-host, however, Tebow is enjoying the Classic City this weekend.

“It’s been great being around a lot of the guys on the team and hanging with Coach (Mark) Richt,” Tebow said on Friday. “It was great. It’s been fun.”

This isn’t the first time Tebow has been to Athens, though. He took a recruiting visit to Georgia as a high school junior when the Bulldogs took on LSU.

Rather than play, Tebow now has a better chance to weigh in on SEC matchups like the one between Georgia and Tennessee this afternoon.

Q: Last week you picked Mississippi State to upset LSU. Do you see Tennessee having that same potential? If so, what would they need to do?

Tebow: I think they have the potential. They’ve got to protect their quarterback. I think they’ve got to stop the run and eliminate a lot of big plays, especially from (Todd) Gurley. If they can do that I think it will be a four-quarter fistfight.

Q: How do you see Knowshon Moreno compared to Todd Gurley?

Tebow: I think they’re a little bit different. I mean, Todd Gurley is so powerful, but he’s also very fast and he can pull away from a lot of guys. You don’t usually see that with guys who are that fast so he’s really impressed me. But also, (Georgia’s) depth has impressed me. Not a lot of teams have the depth where you have a Nick Chubb, a Sony Michel or a Keith Marshall, and you can just rotate those guys. Every time Todd Gurley touches the ball he’s fresh, and that gives him the ability to be even more productive than a guy like Knowshon that was on the field almost every play.

Q: Where does Gurley rank amongst the Heisman favorites, in your opinion?

Tebow: That’s tough to say. Having a big game versus Clemson really helped him. Obviously every loss always hurts when you’re the leader of a team or you’re one of their impact players, but I think we’ll see through SEC play. If he can really help this Georgia team win a lot of these big SEC games. I think he’ll have a shot. He’s at least in the mix right now.

Q: If there were an X-factor for each team, who would it be?

Tebow: I think it’s the offensive line for Tennessee. I think it’s Hutson Mason for Georgia.
