Tim Tebow has been out of the NFL since being cut by the Patriots before last season.

Tim Tebow‘s days holding a microphone are fast approaching, but the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner and 2010 first-round draft pick still isn’t sure he’s done holding a football. Tebow has been hired by ESPN to be an analyst on the SEC Network, which launches in August. Cut by the New England Patriots last preseason, Tebow has always maintained a desire to get another chance in the NFL.

And he’s staying in shape in case opportunity knocks once again.

“I’m training every day and feel like I’m the best that I’ve ever been,” Tebow told The Tennessean. “I still love it, love playing, talking about it, and I’m just excited about whatever the future holds. Who knows what could happen? But I’m excited about it, though.”

He’s 26 years old and hasn’t been a full-time NFL starter since the 2011 season — Tebow’s window for a comeback has either closed or is nearly closed. And while athleticism is increasingly becoming a more important quality in NFL quarterbacks, accuracy still reigns at the position.

Tebow has plenty of the former, but never had enough of the latter — at least not where the NFL was concerned.

The analyst role, however, would ideally suit him. As one of the greatest players in Florida Gators history, and one whose popularity might never wane in the ratings-rich Florida TV market, he is a first-round pick all over again for the SEC Network.

And this time, his career should last longer than a few seasons.

People who’d rather watch Tim talk SEC than play football are deranged.
