Tim Tebow Trade Rumors: Latest News On New York Jets’ QB

By Brian Ethridge

Whether you love him or hate him, there are hundreds of people constantly searching the Internet for the latest Tim Tebow trade rumors. Where will the New York Jets’ backup QB end up playing in 2013? Will he even end up playing anywhere at all? Those are the two questions on everyone’s mind.

There has been absolutely no news coming out of New York about Tim Tebow. The New York Jets are obviously in absolutely no hurry to get rid of the quarterback. Nobody expects Tebow to remain with the team for the 2013 season, but head coach Rex Ryan may be too arrogant to release him.

Ideally the team would trade Tim Tebow for a late round draft pick, but there does not seem to be any teams interested in his services. That leaves Tebow in a very tough position.

If the New York Jets do not release Tim Tebow until right before the regular season, it will be nearly impossible for him to find a job in the National Football League. It is getting close to the point where Tebow’s only hope is that the Jets let him ride the bench for another season. Or at least until a regular season injury forces another team to trade for him.

If you are a fan of Tim Tebow’s, it looks like the 2013 NFL season could end up being just as bad as last season. As time goes by, it’s starting to look more and more likely that we will never witness Tim Tebow as a starting quarterback in the NFL ever again. At this point, Tebow’s best bet would be to leave the NFL entirely and prove that he can be a great starting QB in the Canadian Football League.

Tebow may not want to leave the NFL, but he may not have a choice. He would be smart to leave now before it’s too late.

Who is Brian Ethridge? Don’t want to be harsh but what expertise does he have?Im finding sports pundits a lot like political pundits. They just declare themselves an expert. Then sell their opinion. No one is held accountable for past mistakes.

  2. Sage says:

It’s a good contrarian indicator. Expect what the wing-ding journalists least expect.

  3. Thrawn says:

Jets aren’t in a hurry to cut him because they are in serious cap trouble. Cutting them costs them yet another million and change in dead money. That is the only thing holding the release back.

ts just not fair for the jets can do that to him .I thought I read roger gooddale can make them release on some techanicality ,how can tim get out his contract with the jets .rex ryan is a big fat bully if hes not going to use tebow but he don’t want anybody else to have him .I know exactly what hes wants to to timmy but why I don’t know hes going to relase right before the season starts so he has no place to go and that’s just wrong that should a elegal for a team to do that to any player on a team

It cost 2.4M to keep him and 1.1M to release him and they will keep him until the start of the season after that he gets the 2.4M . they dont want to have to play him some where else the 95 yard drive in Denver was anough for REX to chew.

The jets don’t necessarily know what they’re going to do. There are some within the Organization wondering what many Fans have…Why didn’t he ever get a chance? They went through the “Circus”. Might as well see if there’s a Center Attraction.

There will be interest in him. The obvious…he fills the stands. But also, he’s been effective in the very style of Play the league is moving towards.

But what no Franchise is going to want to do is let it out they have interest. And it’s not because they want to see if they can avoid giving up a Draft pick.

It’s because the firestorm begins the second any Franchise lets it be known they might be in the Market. One Group will instantly be up in arms. Another will become a huge Cheering section. If they can’t pull off a Trade, then those who wanted Tebow will be up in arms. Those who don’t want him aren’t going to give them a pass simply for being unable to do a deal. They’ll still be mad they even wanted him.

So there is absolutely no upside for a franchise in letting any interest leak out. And LOTS of downside. Don’t expect to hear anything until a deal is already being signed.

The flipside to that argument is that there might actually not be that much interrest. I get that you don’t want to tip your hand when trying to get someone on the cheap. But if you are a team in desperate need of a QB, or a spark to generate some buzz around your team, all it would take is a late rounder and picking up the contract that allows the jets to escape a 1 million dollar dead money cap hit.

That’s all it would take. That IS getting him on the cheap. What? teams afraid they can’t make up that 2 million dollar investment selling tickets and Tebow merchandise? Then they have exclusive rights to Tim Tebow. Otherwise, if they wait, then they run the risk that someone else sweeps him up.

He’s already cheap. You’d think their phone would be ringing off the hook. There are very few teams that couln’t have easily found room for his salary.

No, from my angle, it looks like Tebow is being avoided more so than teams trying to maneuver to get him at the lowest price possible.

I’m not saying it’s teams trying to get him on the cheap. That notion has certainly been bandied about alot. I’m saying, tipping the hand invites a firestorm among the Fans for what may end up being nothing if they don’t actually land him.

Why sign up for “The Circus” and get nothing for it in the end except a riled up Fan Base?

  7. i think what the jets are doing to tebow is awful

I really hope he gets released last minute and goes over to the Arena League. It would give Tebow the opportunity to showcase his skills and compete, and give the Arena League some much needed publicity and some serious t.v. time and news coverage. It would be a win-win situation for Tebow and arena football.
